This piece came out of the “Relations” show
(2006 IAIA). This ongoing show is now expressing itself as “Roots”.
The creations that have been made are part of a continuous
dialogue. The dialogue discusses “who we are” and
all the ideas associated with this. Among these issues the
topic of our relationship to our fellow companions on the
Earth (including the Earth) has been looked at. Indigenous
cultures have long themselves as relatives to all other being
on Earth, putting us in a world of a “Whole Tribe”.
We are not only related to all that exist, but we are bound
to each other; responsible to each other. This piece wears
her bond proudly, accepting her tie to all that is. The questions
arises then; How would we act differently on this Earth if
were truly aware of our relationship to all that is? Isn't
the current state of environmental devastation proof that
we have forgotten our tie to our sisters and brothers; the
four legged, the winged, the fish, insects, plants and soil?
Maybe we should all wear reminders of our connection to all
that is, in order to move through this world with more thoughtful
steps? It may help..
